The CLEM7is reliably the fastest, safest way to get from one side of Brisbane’s CBD to the other without having to stop at any traffic lights along the entire tollway.
The CLEM7 saves up to 15 minutes of travel time, with generally the longest journey on the CLEM7 still cutting significant time in comparison with the shortest journey taken on the surface roads.
It also plays an important role in reducing vehicle emissions, cutting fuel expenses and lowering vehicle wear and tear for motorists who would otherwise be battling through stop-start traffic.
The CLEM7 is the safest, fastest way to bypass Brisbane’s CBD.
The Clem Jones Tunnel (CLEM7) was named after Brisbane's longest serving Lord Mayor. It is also the first section of the new M7 motorway due to be completed following the construction of Airport Link.
The original traffic forecast was prepared by one of Australia’s leading traffic forecasters, with a strong track record on other tollway projects, such as Melbourne CityLink, and the M2 and WestLink M7 in Sydney.
These forecasts have not come to fruition, so we have responded to the feedback we have received from Brisbane motorists by keeping the toll at a lower rate than scheduled.
On Friday 25 February, 2011 the RiverCity Motorway Board of Directors placed the entire Group into Voluntary Administration with the Lenders placing the Group into Receivership.
The primary reason for the appointments is the lower than forecast traffic flows through the CLEM7 tunnel. The low levels of traffic are unable to support the debt incurred by the Group to build the tunnel.
